As we are hoping to sell our house this year, we are are not planning any long trips – bar Latitude – but as we both like music, we have booked a fair few gigs at The Secret Garden. We like this site – it’s peaceful, and has all that we would want on it. Our first visit there this year was for P!nk – Beautiful Trauma.

As it happens, I am lucky enough to have more Annual Leave than Jo, so, I took a day off, while Jo had accumulated a few extra hours owed – so we were able to leave home by 1430, and amazingly the A47 was not its normal car park! Also, and I don’t know the whole story, but when we visited last year there was a huge diversion to get to the site – this year we went straight through with no problems – though I think historic Wisbech was not built with Motorhomes in mind! With in a few minutes, the well drilled and oil team sprang into action – Jo went for a wee, and I hooked up and got the awning out 🙂

While I sat down for an early evening drink, I also took the time to check the speed of the available to us internet connections. The 1.95 download speed was what my iPhone was able to achieve on my Vodafone sim; the 17.6 was on the onboard mifi using a Three sim allegedly at 5g – this fake 5g being notorious in the swamps of fenland! Finally we have the Starlink – it really is a no brainer! It really was a lovely evening and as a part of our summer plans, I wanted to use the Cadac more, and I had invested in a few more bits of kit… some of which I got to use this weekend.

The Plancha was bought specifically to allow both a grill and hot plate to be used at the same time – so bacon was really easy to sizzle fry, while the sausages could be nicely browned on the BBQ grill. The Tapas Pans were inspired – even if I say so myself! they are non stick and are the perfect size for frying an egg in – or a small pot of mushrooms or beans or…. I also bought a soft soak – not pictured – and that makes the cleaning of the pans so much easier – its one of those things that you don’t think you need, until you have got one then it makes life easier.

The campsite is set in a lovely landscape, and with the exception of the maze, is maintained in a natural way – the small work shed made to look like a mushroom just felt right! It looks to me like there is a part of the site that is ready to be used by the scouts / guides / organised groups and I can imagine a lot of fun being had with dib dib dib and dob dob sobbing going on. This year I also noticed that many of the pitches had got large metal open fire pits for people to use – a nice touch. One of the things I also love here is the feeling of tranquil peace – there are less than 40 pitches, and that’s over two areas. Lesley, Neil and family have certainly created a magical place – thank you!
But – what about the band? Well, I am not that au fait with Pink – though Jo is – this gig was for her after all. But – there is something about live music – and having a band that can play well, and put on a great show is always going to float my boat – and as you can see in the above video that’s a tight, rocking performance. The set was split into two halves, and I was surprised just how many songs I could mumble along to! The whole performance was certainly worth while – and once again I enjoyed the fast service from the people doing table service – very civilised! One more video to share (These were taken on the bat phone – I am planning to experiment a little more with video this year….)
So, a lovely couple of days spent at the Secret Garden – the first of several this year! I cannot recommend it highly enough – go and enjoy!
