During Covid, I was parachuted into a 70 plus patient nursing home and had a rough time to say the least… We had something like a 40% death rate, some 26 people in a six week period – and then one of the staff team died. Trying to lead and manage a team through this was hard to say the least, but one of the things I found that helped me was The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse – almost every day I shared an image or a thought from that book, and from Charlie Mackesy’s own instagram account – last year it was announced that Charlie, who does next to no public appearances, was appearing at Thorington Theatre to raise funds for his village’s Green Appeal – so we went last year and had a great time – it was, iirc the first proper trip we had out in our old Cheyenne motorhome after our taster trip to Sandringham; so when Jo heard about another planned event, she immediately bought tickets.

Last year we had stayed at Heathside which was a mere hours walk from the venue, through a picturesque water meadow and past the Balancing Barn – always a great view, so I booked again.
We had planned to just do the Saturday night, but as the weather was nice, we went a day early, so on the Saturday morning we went early to Snape Maltings, to browse and look at some art, and the lovely views.

We left there and then returned to Heathside to just chill for the afternoon, before walking through to Thorington to see Charlie.

We arrived back at the campsite around 2130 and just settled down – we both slept well!
All in all, I think we did around 140 miles – its always lovely to see different parts of the countryside, and we really do enjoy having the higher view over the hedges!
